- Cybersecurity with special emphasis on information-theoretic security, multi-party communications in IoT systems, data storage, and federated learning
- Reinforcement learning and decision-making under uncertainty, including Markov Decision Processes (MDPs), Constrained MDPs (CMDPs), and Partially Observable MDPs (POMDPs)
- Next-generation wireless systems and networking, including radio access networks, multiple access techniques, optimization, and stochastic control for both broadband data networks, i.e., 5/6G, and wireless sensor networks

Mohammad Moltafet – About me
I received my Ph.D. in communications engineering from the University of Oulu, Finland, in 2021. I was a Visiting Ph.D. Researcher at Linköping University, Sweden, in 2019, and a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Oulu and the Technical University of Munich (TUM), Germany, in 2021 and 2022, respectively. Currently, I am an Assistant Adjunct Professor at the University of California at Santa Cruz, USA.

The core theoretical background required for carrying out successful research in these fast-developing fields is formed by: Communication Theory and Networking, Mathematical Optimization, Information Theory, Machine Learning, Probability Theory, Queuing Theory, Signal Processing, and Number Theory.
